Itoh peonies are a cross between a herbaceous and a Tree Peony (aka Intersectional Peonies), a horticultural feat that has proved very difficult to accomplish. Bartzella is a stunningly beautiful variety whose deep yellow 9" flowers are on a plant that looks and behaves like a very big, healthy herbaceous Peony, but the flowers are on strong stems like a tree peony, so the plant won't flop when it gets hit with a heavy rain.  The plant looks good all season, and has gorgeous bronze leaves in the fall
