Malus domestica ‘Granny Smith’

Granny Smith Apple

One of the best apples for cooking and baking, ‘Granny Smith’ produces medium to large bright green fruit with crisp white flesh and a distinctly tart flavor. The firm texture holds up well in pies and sauces, and slices resist browning. Fruit stores and freezes exceptionally well.

Hardiness Zone: 5–9

Ripening Time: August–September

Mature Size: 12–16 feet tall x 14–16 feet wide

Sun: Full Sun

Soil: Clay, loamy, sandy, moist, well drained

Habit: Oval form

Pollination: Self-fertile; produces larger crops when planted with Gala, McIntosh, or Red Delicious

An excellent choice for home orchards and bakers seeking reliable, tart apples with firm texture.
