Slightly prickly and husky fruits follow containing 2-3 poisonous nuts. The serrulate dark green leaves have a red mid-rib. A broad, rounded, and dense shade tree, it prefers deep well drained soils, but is adaptable to a wide range. Named to honor Pierre Louis Briot, the nurseryman at Trianon-Versailles near Paris, France in 1858.
